Messervy is a renowned landscape designer, and she will discuss how her deep grounding in oriental traditions of shaping the land informs how she approaches the making of landscapes both as a designer and in the installation process.
More info on the event sponsored in part by Inaray and 3north is available here.
Tina Eshelman in the Richmond Magazine Blog, “Food Stuff” posted a story om Ellie Basch’s last wine dinners at The Lunch Porter on April 22 and 23. She also reported on the Chefs Andy Howell and Bill Foster’s new noodle bar coming in July, Ejay Rin. Read Tina’s complete story here (and if it’s not too late, you’ll find Ellie’s menu for the wine dinners as well).

Ellie Basch of The Lunch Porter (formerly called Savor) says she is still taking reservations for the restaurant’s final wine dinner, but people who are interested should call Friday morning. She talked with us recently about the dinner and about The Lunch Porter’s three-year run….
The space occupied by The Lunch Porter — 201 W. Seventh St. in the Corrugated Box Building — won’t stay empty for long, though.
Scott Ukrop, a principal at 3North Architects and one of the partners in the building, confirms reports that chefs Andy Howell and Bill Foster plan to open a noodle bar called Ejay Rin in July. Howell has been one of three owners of Café Rustica, which will continue operating under the ownership of Sam George and Michelle Turner; Foster has worked at the Frog and the Redneck, Acacia, A Sharper Palate, Zed Café and the Boathouse at Rocketts Landing.
Of the noodle bar concept, Ukrop says, “I think they realize there’s nothing like it in Richmond, so it’s a great opportunity. … It’s added energy and excitement for Manchester and it suits the creative bent of our building.”
Deveron Timberlake of Style Weekly reported on Tuesday, April 19:
Chefs Bill Foster and Andy Howell are partnering in a noodle shop coming to the former Lunch Porter-Savor space in Manchester’s Corrugated Box Building by early July. The name, Ejay Rin, honors Foster’s grandmother and also denotes power; the concept is modeled on New York City’s hugely profitable Momofuku. Pork buns, noodles in broth with meats and vegetables, and other Asian dishes will get Foster’s kitchen going; Howell is choosing beer and wine to enhance the flavors. They’ll make some decorative changes in the mod space and put extra emphasis on outdoor dining. Expect immediate hotness.
Although we will miss Ellie Basch and The Lunch Porter as they will be leaving at the end of the month, we look forward to welcoming Ejay Rin for a unique dining experience for RVA.

Chef Ellie Basch will be hosting her final Wine Dinners at The Lunch Porter on Friday, April 22 and Saturday, April 23. Although we are sad to see Ellie go, we are excited that there will soon be an announcement of a new restaurant coming to The Corrugated Box Building.
