Savor Cafe is Now The Lunch Porter

In a letter to Savor’s customers, Chef Ellie Basch explains why the name change from Savor to The Lunch Porter:

Yes, after two years building our Savor Cafe brand and recognition, I came across a crushing fact that an international concession company, whose clients include Richmond Convention Ctr and CenterStage, had a federal trademark on Savor… for their catering arm.

A patent lawyer friend confirmed that there is no way in heck we can keep our name and it’s a matter of time when they come to us and tell us to change our name or fold, because – um, you know – we’re GREAT! and we’ll come on their radar soon enough.

So, long story short (Style Weekly has the long story coming up – thanks Style!) we’re changing our name to The LUNCH PORTER. Why this particular name, you ask?

Well, we’re known as an awesome LUNCH spot, aren’t we? We also have terrific boxed lunches and trays that we deliver/PORTER to your office. Plus, we’re on the corner of West 7th and PORTER streets.
OK, all this self-affirming “awesome, great, terrific, delicious, etc.” is not a reflection of how I feel about this name change (oops, my pants are so on fire.)  Oh no, nah, I’m not unhappy to have to work harder to build another brand back up, nor spend the cash flow to order new business cards, menu, and website with the new name and logo. *smile* *peace*

So… anyway, please tell your friends about our new name. Nothing else is different, the same ole me still there, my wonderful staff still serve you with a smile, same commitments to our local farmers and producers, same zeal to tread lightly on Mother Nature, same ole business as usual at Savor, er… I mean, the Lunch Porter.
